Design Your Own Art Project
Final Product-
Artist Statement- Through my art piece, I wanted to work through an abundance of different images, creating a collage of either a specific image or miscellaneous images. Starting this project, I first wanted to create a portrait collage, but when I researched portrait collages thoroughly, I realized that I wouldn’t have enough time to have a finished product that I would be proud of. Changing my idea of what I originally wanted to do threw me off at first because I was then stuck on another art piece that I could do. Wanting to stick with my first idea of the collage, I decided to research on something that I could get done in the time given. Finally, I decided on making a collage, essentially creating a mountain. I determined on constructing a mountain because the mountains are my home, and something that is a big part of my life.

Environmental Documentary Project
Project Description-
For this project we were asked to think of an environmental issue and incorporate it into a video. To kickstart the project, we started brainstorming topics that we could make a video about, and after we decided which topic we wanted to do, we researched about it, then we made a storyboard to go along with it. The storyboard was essential to the project because it helped guide us through the layout of our video. Helpful pieces in this project was definitely seeing other documentaries made by professionals and watching instructional videos on lighting, headshots, sound etc.
Project Reflection-
Within this project, I have learned many different things. I have learned how to make a time lapse video, edit and crop out certain parts of the video, independent research on valuable facts, and I also learned that royalty free music is a thing. From this project, I think I am going to take away a lot of things. Of course, besides from the basics like learning how to use Imovie, the correct lighting and head shots to have during specific and important moments during the video, but above all, what I think I really am going to take away from this project is the negative affects my topic has to not only the community, but the planet. I always knew that plastic was bad for the environment and it takes a really long time to break down and leave the earth, but now that I researched the effects it has to animals, the earth and even to us, I have become more aware with the products I use, and what type of things we should be doing with plastics, and other alternatives that are not only better for you, but also for the earth.
Inquiry Questions-
How is art used in everyday life?
Art is used in everyday as many different things such as taking a photograph of something you think is beautiful, adventuring out into nature and exploring new places, going to a different place and getting to know its culture, writing about something you love, doing something you love. Art is all around us. Although these are also art, it doesn’t just have to be a picture you paint on a canvas or something you handcraft from homemade scraps. Art is much more than that and it is much more alive and around us, if only we are willing to take a look.
How and why is art used as a vehicle for communication?
Art is used as a vehicle of communication in ways that can help get a point across. Such as the documentary project, it helped the audience watching to want to go out and make a difference in the world, or even the community. Art communicates moods, thoughts, and feelings. It’s an expressive form of oneself on a certain topic, or something they just feel for.
Does material culture influence artistic decisions?
Yes, I think material culture influences artistic decisions such as what is ‘in’, what's trending and what fits into the modern book of society. Artistically, no one wants to make something that stands out from society because it is ‘different’, and I think most people make that choice subconsciously.

Mini Project on Stop Motion Animation
Project Description- In order to make this project we had to learn a few rules and tips about lighting, photography composition, Photoshop actions and batches, and flash and frame rates. We learned how lighting can really make a difference in how a stop motion video's or photos come out, and how each object should be moved in a specific way to make it all come together.
Reflection- Way's in which I could use I could use this technique in my Environmental Documentary Project is using the lighting tips and techniques during an interview, so it doesn't make the subject that we are interviewing too light, too dark, and make them well blended with the background and themselves. Another -technique I could use in the Documentary project is different view points on the camera, such as closeup shots, side views and straight forwards shots. An example for using a closeup side view shot would be when the situation turns dramatic and serious.

Project Reflection-
Q: What did you learn from this project?
A: In this project, I learned different things, such as how to use Adobe Illustrator, scan things from my sketchbook, to the computer, and how to multitask the same project, with two different programs. I also learned the designing process of creating a logo and the layout design.
Q: What are you going to take with you from this project?
A: I am going to have a better understanding on how to work different programs in a creative and artistic way, while also learning how to juggle my time and multitasking, to better insure myself that if I take my time, while also meeting the deadlines, I am going to have a better outcome that I am proud of.

Self-Portrait Project
Why is it important to understand the intentions behind an artwork? A self-portrait in particular?
--- I find it is important to understand the intentions behind an art piece, specifically a self-portrait, so the viewer can understand what the artist loves, and their view on different things. It is also important, so the viewer can understand why the artist incorporated particular colors in the portrait, to portray a specific mood or feeling. In a self-portrait, the intentions behind the piece are also vulnerable. The artist can be expressing themselves in ways that are very open and raw, telling the viewer more about them, than what they may realize. That is why it is important to understand the intentions behind and artwork, particularly a self-portrait.
What problem solving skills are employed in making visual reflections of self?
-- The problem solving skills that are employed in making visual reflections of self is understanding that what you make, is something that you should be proud of and take pride in your work that you are displaying, even if you are rushed on time, you should still try and make it the best it can be. I also try to take other peoples opinions and advice on the project, and incorporate peers' ideas into my own. Another, problem solving skill I had to make for my visual reflection is I have to accept that I have to make changes, even though it's something that I really like about it, I have to try and make it into something better by changing it. I also realized that within critiquing my own work, I have to be open minded about it and try to look at it with a different perspective, so I could see other changes I should make. Those are the problem solving skill that are employed in making visual reflections of self.

LANDSCAPE
In this mini project, I learned what foreground, middle ground and background are. Foreground are objects that should be large and colorful, high in contrast, have sharp shadows and have crisp texture and details. Middleground has colors that are less vibrant, softer details, the objects are mid-sized and are seen individually, and the smaller details are lost. Background however, has the objects blurred together, the individual subjects become one and the colors blend. It’s very low in contrast, except in sunsets, and is less vibrant, more of a haze.
The tools that I found most useful in this project were lasso tool, magic wand, the move tool, and free transform. Free transform helped this project by changing the scale and proportion on the certain object that I wanted to change. The difference between a photoshop document and a JPeg is that a JPEG is a standard format and it isn’t connected to any specific application, while PSD saves all of the information that you have and allows you to reopen it and work on it again.

Photoshop Tutorials
Original Image before Photoshop Image after
- I grabbed an image of a face from the internet, and grabbed an image of cracks, then I went to photoshop where I put the cracked image over her face, and I used the eraser tool to get rid of unwanted cracks in paces liker her hair, eyes and mouth.
Original Image before Photoshop Image after
- For this image I found that the brush tool was most helpful, and I used the color I wanted and I changed the hue, saturation and lightness of the image.

- I used the pen tool to get the eye, and I pressed 'Control U' where I could choose the color I wanted and change the hue and saturation of the image.
Teacher Creature
In this Teacher Creature project, I emailed my math teacher, Brendan, various different questions that would help make this project. I asked him questions such as his favorite food, favorite place to be (Vermont), something you are obsessed with (banjo), favorite animal that can be mythical (The wish dragon), favorite season (Summer) and if you had one weapon to use, what would it be (bike). I incorporated each image into this project, although there was a difficulty incorporating the wish dragon, because we have to search large images, the wish dragon did not have a large image, so I had to improvise and turn his body into a different dragon. I also added in some different images to meet the minimum amount of images needed in this project. The most challenging part about this project was outlining an image to make the background not be apart of the image, and also finding a different image for his body, because I couldn’t use the original image I wanted before. I preserved through it by being more focused and concentrated on what I was working on, which made outlining the image easier, and I also just decided to use a dragon, instead of the wish dragon. Overall, as an artist, I learned that my style is more simplistic, and I like to do more simple things with my work, but I know I could do more things that are difficult. Underlying structures unconsciously guide my creation of artworks by having my math teacher fill out a survey about some of his favorite things, although there are most images that didn’t make it into the photoshop document because we have to search for large images, and most of the images I wanted to incorporate I couldn’t, so I decided to search for similar images, so I wouldn’t have to change the theme entirely.
