Reflection-
Skills that helped me in making this project was from a previous math project, which was how to make an infographic. I learned how to make an infographic through the Logic Ballot project that we had assigned to us, so using the skill in order to make an infographic for this project was really helpful, because while I still struggled with a few things in making it, it made it a lot easier with the knowledge I already had. Moreover, it was cool that I got to advance my understanding on how to create an infographic.
The most significant thing I did during this project was that I wrote about determining the possible solutions and developing a plan, and I also expanded my knowledge with how to make an infographic. I contributed to the success of the project by writing two of the proposals in the written piece, which helped make the whole essay flow together with the rest of my groups writing.
I experienced difficulty in coming up with what I should do and what I should put on my infographic. I wasn’t quite sure exactly what information to put on it, and I struggled with coming up with the graph. The personal characteristics that contributed to my difficulties was at first procrastinating with my time. I wasn’t using my time wisely for the first week with my research so I encountered a few struggles, but I overcame them by asking my group for help and then managing my time better.
Prior to having this project completed, I didn’t know that most engraver beetles don’t infest on living trees. They mainly go for the downed or stressed trees, to which they also do little damage to. Although, the beetle that causes the most damage to the Englemann Spruce trees is the spruce beetle, the engraver beetle still infests the downed trees in the geographical range of the Subalpine ecosystem.
Assumptions and and contradictions that were confirmed or contradicted by the experience that I am both a leader and a follower. While I like to have people tell me what to do for guidance, I also like to take charge of certain things, especially having to deal with ideas or thoughts that is passionate to me.
If I could do the project again, what I would do differently is use my time more sufficiently the first week we worked on the infographics. Such as researching my topic more so that I could have made an infographic that was something I was really proud to show off during our critiques, instead of cranking through it just to make sure I had something to show, whether or not I was proud of it.
The implications of what I learned from this experience that could benefit my future career is research skills and learning how to work with a team when a conflict rises. We had to work through our conflict by communicating and delegating tasks to our other group members, which will benefit my experiences later in life.
Skills and knowledge that I wish I had prior to this experience that would have aided me to get more from this experience and have a better outcome was if I knew how to make a graph. I knew a little bit about how to make a graph from scratch, but I totally blanked and was lost as to how to make one and what information to put on it, and if I knew how, it would’ve been easier to finish in time for peer critiques and would’ve lessened my stress.
The activities focused on this experience meshed with learning style pretty well. I am a hands on and visual learner, so being able to learn how to work and infographic and write about it worked really well with my learning style.
Having participated in this experience will change how I approach future projects/tasks/research, by using my time more wisely when I am given time to work on it during class. Though I got a really decent grade on this project, it would have been less stressful if I had used the time given.
