Short Story-
Mask Project
In this unit, I got to learn more about society and the affects it has on people. Such as the roles it plays out for us, and how we need to follow them. In this project, I made a mask about Female stereotypes and the gender roles that females should follow. I researched about the women suffrage movement, where female stereotypes can be found, and how they affect us. I learned females are negatively socialized on gender role stereotypes, jobs, how they should look and how they should act. On my mask I had two sides. One side, the black side, represented the type of stereotypes females get through media, and the people around them, and on the white side, represented how men socialize female stereotypes. The stitching of the mouth on one side shows that males don't necessarily 'like' it when women speak their mind, or voice their opinions. They basically want them to just stand there and look pretty. On the other side of the mask shows a smirk, just to show that men usually have more power over females. The project was to find identity and the masks we have on ourselves to make ourselves more 'presentable' in societies eyes.
